Why is 21st June celebrated as International Yoga Day??

United Nation's General assembly declared 21st June as international Yoga day post Indian PM Narendra Modi accepted the date as International Day of Yoga. While suggesting the day for this practice that is 5000 years old and invented in India, PM Modi mentions that ?the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world.? 21st June is considered as Summer Solstice that has a great significance in Indian Mythology. As per the Indian Mythology, Summer Solstice is the origin point of Yogic science. 175 nations across the world made the resolution regarding the same including the countries like USA, China, Canada.


The first International Yoga Day was celebrated in the year 2015 at Raj Path. The responsibility for the execution of the same was given to AYUSH ministry. The event got listed in history with rewards like Limca Book of Record and Guinness world records. All countries alongside India are taking keen interest right from the time when the first Yoga day was celebrated. AYUSH ministry is also responsible for the awareness related to Yoga in public and different countries.
